First Look at Star Trek: Discovery Klingons

With a new trailer, came a new and updated logo for Star Trek: Discovery.

CBS has recently unveiled a new promotional video for their upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery. The video boasted a lot of little hints at what is to come, and many keen-eyed fans noticed something different towards the end of the trailer: a completely re-done logo.

Displayed side-by-side for your viewing pleasure (2016 version on the left, 2017 version on the right), the new logo boasts a more polished and sleeker look. Something that I think is reflective of the type of show we will see come Jan….er…March…errr…sometime in 2017.

It is notable that both designs feather a ‘cut’ on the right edge of the ‘Starfleet’ emblem. It hasn’t been disclosed if this is just an artistic approach to the logo or it is being used to symbolize something else.

SPOILER WARNING: THE REST OF THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPECULATION AND POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR STAR TREK: DISCOVERY.

In my opinion it either means the Federation is fracturing and the Discovery must help save it, or that alternate timelines will be included, with variations on what ‘Starfleet’ actually is. This also could play into theories about some sort of Klingon cold-war going on. It’s very possible that some in Starfleet want a full on war with the Klingons while others want to try to find a peaceful solution. We know we will be seeing a lot of a Klingon crew after all.

Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller and Rod Roddenberry will act as executive producers, with Nicholas Meyer and Kirsten Beyer serving as writers and consulting producers; with those names on the bridge whatever the plot of Discovery is we know it will be good.
